Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
